Abstract

the research applied Hofman’s theory to identify Code Switching types and Apple and Muysken’s framework to analyze motivating factors. This research identified 88 dialogues as Code Switching used by the characters in this series, with Inter Sentential Code Switching being the most frequent with (43 times), followed by Emblematic (22 times) and Intra Sentential (23 times) types. Among the six identified factors, Expressive factor such as conveying emotions and feelings, appeared most dominant with (43 times) followed by Referential (9 times), Directive (10 times), Phatic (25 times), Metalinguistic (0 times) and Poetic (1 time). These findings reveal that Code Switching plays a meaningful role in communication and social identity among bilingual society in modern era, especially in this series contexts.
