Abstract

The purpose of this study to describe the emergence of "Student Cognitive Load in Solving Problems Linear Inequality One Variable class VII MTs Negeri Ambon". The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research type. The research technique used in this research is test, interview, and documentation to dig the data. The tests and interviews were conducted to find out more about the students' cognitive loads in solving linear inequality problems for a given variable. In this study, conducted tests and interviews on some students, from the results are then used two subjects that meet the characteristics of intrinsic cognitive load. The results showed that intrinsic cognitive loads arising due to material interactivity (initial knowledge) and material complexity were students' difficulties in equalizing the denominator or multiplying both segments with KPK of 2 and 5, the nature of algebraic (inverse and distributive) operations, algebraic operations addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), waking matter, writing equations, using inequality marks, determining the set of inequality settlement, defining the mathematical model and determining the maximum value.
