Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in English language learning at SMA Negeri 17 Seram Bagian Barat (SBB), as well as to identify its strengths and weaknesses in the teaching and learning process. The implementation of the PBL model is expected to create a more active, creative, and student-centered learning environment. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach focusing on describing the process and results of the implementation without any comparison or quantitative measurement. The study was conducted from April 23, 2025, to May 23, 2025. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the teaching and learning process to obtain accurate and indepth information regarding the implementation of the PBL model in English language learning. The findings of the study indicate that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model was carried out effectively in English language learning. Students were actively involved in classroom activities such as group discussions, collaboration, and problem-solving tasks. In addition, the classroom atmosphere became more interactive and communicative, providing students with greater opportunities to use English during the learning process. Overall, the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model contributed positively to the English language learning process at SMA Negeri 17 SBB.
