Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model in the English language learning process at SMP Negeri 9 Huamual. This study employs a qualitative research metho with a descriptive approach. The research subjects consist of English teachers and students in the classes implementing the STAD learning model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the STAD learning model was carried out through several stages, namely the presentation of material by the teacher, the formation of heterogeneous groups, group learning activities, the administration of individual quizzes, and the awarding of group rewards. The application of the STAD model helped increase student participation in learning, encouraged cooperation among group members, and increased student motivation in English. However, there were several obstacles, such as differences in student ability and a lack of participation by some group members in discussion activities. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the STAD cooperative learning model can be effectively applied in the English learning process at SMP Negeri 9 Huamual and has a positive impact on students’ learning activities and motivation.
