Abstract

This research aims to describe how the independent curriculum is implemented and to find out the challenges faced by teacher in english teaching of class VII At SMP Negeri 10 Huamual Belakang. The method used in this research as qualitative and a qualitative-descriptive approach with two informants. The research was conducted from 16th July to 16th August 2025 which took place in class VII of SMP Negeri 10 Huamual Belakang. The research result indicate that despite enthusiasm from school, particularly english teacher, in implementing the Independent Curriculum, school also face significant challenges, particularly in terms of limited facilities and resources. Most school and english teacher still struggle to design learning that is fully based on student interests and needs, given limited training time and a lack of learning materials appropriate to the Independent Curriculum approach. Furthermore, school and English teacher struggle with the use of technology and digital learning media in areas with limited internet access. Nevertheless, some improvements have been made by utilizing local resources and creative approaches to teaching. This research concludes that while the Implementation of the Independent Curriculum of Class VII at SMP Negeri 10 Huamual Belakang still faces various challenges, the school's target is that long-term success can be achieved through improved teacher training, adequate facilities, and full support from the school and parents.
